چکیده
Grasshoppers are divided into two major subgroups: the short-horned grasshoppers (Figure 1) and the long-horned grasshoppers, Mormon crickets and katydids (Figure 2). Short-horned grasshoppers are responsible for most of the reported crop losses. As a result, individuals of this subgroup are popularly referred to as “grasshoppers.” Figure 1. A mature two-striped female grasshopper (Melanoplus bivittatus). Note the distinct two stripes running the full length of the body and the single black stripe on the hind leg.

Variation in Grasshopper (Acrididae) Densities in Response to Fire Frequency and Bison Grazing in Tallgrass Prairie
While weather can contribute signiÞcantly to grasshopper population dynamics in North American grasslands, local environmental conditions resulting from land use practices may be equally important. In this study, signiÞcant differences in grasshopper density were detected among adjacent watersheds from Kansas Flint Hills tallgrass prairie that differed in Þre frequency and especially bison graz...

Host Selection by Grasshoppers (orthoptera: Acrididae) Inhabiting Semi-aquatic Environments
Through laboratory choice tests involving 19 plant species, we assessed the host selection behavior of six grasshopper species: Stenacris vitreipennis (Marschall) (glassywinged toothpick grasshopper), Leptysma marginicollis (Serville) (cattail toothpick grasshopper), Gymnoscirtetes pusillus Scudder (little wingless grasshopper), Paroxya clavuliger (Serville) (olivegreen swamp grasshopper), Paro...
متن کاملDirect and Indirect Effects of Avian Predation on Grasshopper Communities in Northern Mixed-grass Prairie
The ecological interactions between grasshoppers, predators, and resources that can limit the population growth of grasshoppers are poorly understood. A number of Þeld experiments have shown that top-down control by avian predators can limit grasshopper populations, but the effects of avian predators on grasshopper populations can differ between years and between sites in the samehabitat. I con...
متن کاملMulti-objective Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm based Reconfiguration of Distribution Networks
Network reconfiguration is a nonlinear optimization procedure which calculates a radial structure to optimize the power losses and improve the network reliability index while meeting practical constraints. In this paper, a multi-objective framework is proposed for optimal network reconfiguration with the objective functions of minimization of power losses and improvement of reliability index. T...
